What Is Mohs Surgery?
At Commonwealth Dermatology, PLLC, Mohs Micrographic Surgery represents an advanced and meticulous approach to combatting skin cancer. This innovative procedure involves our dermatologist assuming the roles of a proficient skin cancer surgeon and pathologist. The process initiates with the surgical extraction of the visible portion of the skin cancer alongside a layer of surrounding skin.
Upon extraction, the tissue undergoes meticulous scrutiny. Our Mohs surgeon meticulously divides and color-codes the tissue, creating corresponding reference marks on the patient for precise identification. These sections are thoroughly scrutinized under a microscope to detect any evidence of cancer cells. If cancer is identified in any section, the exact location is meticulously marked on a surgical map.
This detailed map serves as a guide, facilitating the surgeon in the targeted removal of additional layers of tissue solely from areas where cancer cells persist, preserving healthy tissue. This iterative process persists until no further evidence of cancer is detected.
Mohs Micrographic Surgery at Commonwealth Dermatology, PLLC ensures meticulous and targeted removal, aiming for optimal results by maximizing cancer eradication while safeguarding surrounding healthy tissue. This approach is dedicated to comprehensive cancer removal while minimizing the impact on adjacent healthy skin.
